St. Pierre & Miquelon |

FP/VE7SV will be active from Miquelon Island (IOTA NA-032) from October 23 to November 2, 2004 inclusive. This document has a short description of our plans. We kindly ask you to read it and consider supporting this DXpedition. You can find additional information on our web page: http://www.bcdxc.org/st_pierre_miquelon.htm or by contacting:
FP: St. Pierre and Miquelon The reason for selecting St. Pierre and Miquelon Islands for our DXpedition is that although it is close to Canada and the USA it is relatively rare as a DXCC entity. There has been little activity during the past many years and then usually only by holiday type operations making few contacts on limited bands using low power and simple antennas. Usually the stations who contact these operations are the same who have worked FP before. These activities have mostly occurred during the summer months when access to these French Islands is easier but propagation is poor, especially on the low bands. The more distant parts of the world rarely have an opportunity for a contact and our plan is to focus on working those that still need it. While the primary objective of the Team will be to achieve a high QSO total for the DXpedition, the parallel objective is to give FP/VE7SV to as many locations as possible. The team will have operational blocks of time set aside specifically for areas where working FP as a new one is particularly challenging. We would like to have your feedback on bands and modes required by your club members. Our operation will be on 160 thru 6 meters including the WARC bands – CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. In addition, LEO (low earth orbit) FM Satellite will also be operated. Details regarding Satellite operation will be available closer to the Teams departure date Our current DXpedition goal is set for 30 to 40,000 contacts. Contest Operation Additionally we will participate in the CQ WW SSB contest in the M2 (multi two) category with a goal of winning this category for the world. We will be located close to two of the three major amateur radio population centers: USA and Europe, which is an advantage that allows high rates on all bands during the contest. Being close to Europe and its many multipliers will provide an opportunity to maximize our score. Operators Team dynamics is an important consideration and every effort has been made to assemble a team that will work together and strive to meet and exceed our goals. The team includes specialists on 6 meters, low bands and contesting. Each is experienced and committed to making our DXpedition world class and we would be pleased to have you join us in this adventure and to fly your logo flag on Miquelon Island. Team members include: Dale, VE7SV; Andy, VE7AHA; Jason, VE7AG, Lee, VE7CC, Steve, VE7CT; Dave, VE7VR; Paul, VA7NT; Dick, N7RO; Paul, VE7AVV; and Ramon, XE1KK. You can find the team members amateur radio résumés at: http://www.bcdxc.org/fp_team.htm Logistics and cost The logistics for executing a serious DXpedition or contest operation to St Pierre and Miquelon is complex. Equipment must be shipped well in advance of any operation due to the once weekly freight ferry service to the islands. Air service is 3 times per week via small aircraft with very strict weight and size limitations. The estimated cost of making this possible will be around $US 30,000 and at the present all cost will be paid by the 10 participants involved. Each and all contributions to the DXpedition will be appreciated and recognized. All contributions will be used at the discretion of the Team to directly offset the costs related to the operation. Why contribute to the FP/VE7SV DXpedition ?
